Birds on a Fence

The students and I talked about horizon lines, a farm-style fence, and fall-type birds. I showed them how to draw a fence with a ruler and then demonstrated how to draw birds (and supplied some "how to draw" pictures to help the students)and details to make the drawing complete. Then details were colored with crayons and colored pencils and the background and fence were painted with watercolor. WONDERFUL job 2nd grade! You did great!

Art Club Begins

This week begins my weekly art club meetings with 5th through 8th graders after school. I have such a great time with the kids and I am excited to begin another year. Until we have enough lids to the bottle cap mural we are going to start a book making project. I want to encourage students to journal, draw, sketch, or anything of that nature by making beautiful books.

I will also post some pictures this week of some new projects!

Happy October!!

1st grade pop-art

I showed the kids Andy Warhol art and how he used bold colors and repeated images. The kiddos learned how to trace thier own drawings to make copies. Then, each image was colored with a color group from the color wheel (primary, secondary, contrasting, and analogous colors). GREAT JOB!! I love the one that has 16 faces instead of 4. This little guy loves to be different and even made awesome backgrounds!

obsession

I am really loving sharpies, markers, and crayons lately. I find myself doodling and coloring (paisley drawings, doodles, and trees)whenever I am sitting still and "bored." I have also become addicted to pinterest.com. It is a great site to save ideas and inspirations for teaching. If you like to doodle and want some neat ideas search zentangles!

Well, that is all for now. New photos will be coming when art projects begin to trickle in for the school year.
